The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has stated that the nation’s imported vegetable volume is limited to products grown solely in cold regions, with some additional exports added during the rainy season, when domestic production drops.

According to the Ministry, the annual domestic demand for vegetables is about 1 million tons, while domestic production totals about 750,000 tons. It maintained there is no shortage of local vegetables but it has been difficult to transport them to and in Phnom Penh because of lockdown measures.

Minister Veng Sakhon yesterday said the Ministry decided to intervene after it had learned of the difficulties encountered by those transporting goods from provinces to the capital because of the lockdown measures.
