Amazon Fresh has opened the doors to its second full-size 40,000-square-foot grocery store featuring its Just Walk Out technology. The new store at 1610 W. Imperial Highway in La Habra, Calif., is the 10th Amazon Fresh store to open in Southern California.

Just Walk Out technology allows shoppers the option to skip the checkout line. Customers who opt for Just Walk Out shopping can enter the store in three ways: They can scan the in-store QR code in their Amazon app, use Amazon One to scan their palm, or insert a credit or debit card linked to their Amazon account. Each option will open the Just Walk Out gates.

Once inside the store, customers can shop as they normally would. Anything they take off the shelf is automatically added to their virtual cart, and anything put back on the shelf comes out of their virtual cart. At the end of their trip, customers shopping with the Just Walk Out experience can scan or insert their entry method again to exit. Alternatively, customers can opt to shop using traditional checkout lanes, staffed by employees, who are also available throughout the store for assistance, the company said.

Amazon Fresh opened its first full-size grocery store with Just Walk Out technology in Bellevue, Wash., earlier this year.

The new La Habra store, about 20 minutes north of Anaheim, is joining a highly competitive grocery neighborhood that includes Sam’s Club, Target, Trader Joe’s, Smart & Final Sprouts Farmers Market and Aldi—all within minutes of the new Amazon Fresh.

To celebrate the store’s Dec. 17 grand opening, Amazon Fresh is offering special holiday deals and discounts on seasonal items, including Cure 81 Spiral Half Hams for $1.99 a pound; USDA Choice Fresh Brand New York Strip Steak for $7.99 per package; Amazon Fresh private label Cursive Pinot Noir for $9.99 a bottle; and Create A Treat E-Z Build Gingerbread House Kits for $9.99 each.

Customers shopping the La Habra location can also take advantage of a coupon for $10 off an order of $20 or more, or $20 off an order of $50 or more found in their weekly Amazon Fresh circular for shopping trips made at the store until Dec. 26. Customers may use the paper coupon at the Just Walk Out exit or at the traditional checkout.

Amazon Fresh stocks national brands as well as 365 by Whole Foods Market organics; a variety of fresh produce, meat and seafood; and a range of prepared foods made fresh in-store every day that includes fresh-baked bread, made-to-order pizzas, rotisserie chickens and hot sandwiches. Local brands such as Pizza Port Brewing, CoolHaus Ice Cream and Rockenwagner Bakery are also in-store.

The grocer, which prides itself on low prices, offers 15-cent bananas; 89-cent freshly baked bread; $1.79 freshly baked pizza slices; and $4.97 rotisserie chicken at the La Habra store.

Amazon Fresh accepts cash, SNAP EBT, credit or debit card, or use of the in-store QR code in the Amazon app. Customers who opt to shop with Just Walk Out technology can shop with Amazon One, a credit or debit card, or by scanning the in-store QR code in the Amazon app.

The new Amazon Fresh offers prospective employees a starting wage of $15.85 per hour.
