Texas grocer H-E-B will open its first location in the fast-growing city of Cibolo, about 25 miles northeast of San Antonio, on Wednesday.
H-E-B also said it plans to open a 55,000-square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center in Cibolo later this year to “integrate innovative technologies that drive omnichannel growth and provide a more convenient and better shopping experience.”
H-E-B broke ground on the store in November 2021, according to the company’s social media posts.
The 110,023-square-foot store cost $8.2 million to build, according to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The project was scheduled to be completed on March 22.
It will employ about 350 workers.
The Cibolo H-E-B will include a fuel station and car wash.
H-E-B’s newest store will offer curbside pickup and delivery, as well as cut-in-store meats, fresh seafood, sushi prepared in-store, local produce, housemade tortillas, live cooking demonstrations, a drive-thru pharmacy and more.
H-E-B’s Cibolo store will feature a H-E-B Brand Shop, a line of branded merchandise the grocer introduced late last year.
“We are excited to serve our new neighbors and our H‑E‑B Partners are eager to earn the confidence of many new shoppers throughout the community,” said Jamie Pomykal, Cibolo top store leader and 22-year H-E-B employee, in a statement. “We look forward to serving Cibolo with the best of H‑E‑B, offering the products and services our customers have come to love and expect.”
The Cibolo store will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The e-commerce fulfillment center will stock goods found in the store, to satisfy curbside and home delivery orders.
“With these centers, H-E-B has grown supply chain capacity to help improve and power the expansion of its curbside and home delivery services, which are available at more than 270 stores in Texas,” the grocer said.
In December, H-E-B announced it would open its first multi-level store, in Austin, on Feb. 15.
The 97,000-square-foot store includes a two-story porch with views of Lake Austin, the grocer said, along with a True Texas BBQ restaurant, SouthFlo Pizza restaurant and a coffee shop.
H-E-B operates more than 420 locations in Texas and Mexico.
The grocer was named among the country’s most-trusted food retailers earlier this year, according to a BrandSpark survey conducted in partnership with WGB and Newsweek.
