Nemlig.com is a Danish online supermarket. It’s now making its largest investment ever. The company’s going to build a large distribution center in Aarhus. This DC will be around 30.000m2 and will create more than 1.000 jobs.
Nemlig.com now supplies 84% of Danish households. It packs and distributes all its goods from its DC near Copenhagen. A new distribution center will allow the company to serve Western Denmark better.
So, they’ll be able to offer a better service to the many residents of Funen and Jutland. These people’s shopping behavior has changed over the years. They increasingly do online shopping.
Stefan Plenge, nemlig.com’s Administrative Director and founder, says, “We’re delighted to share this wonderful news. Our many loyal customers in Western Denmark can look forward to even better service in the form of faster delivery. They’ll also have many more delivery slots to choose from throughout the day.”
More than 1.000 new jobs in Aarhus
How much constructing and equipping the modern DC will cost isn’t publicly known. But there’s talk of at least thousands of millions of Danish krone. It will boast facilities like refrigeration and freezing rooms. So, all types of groceries can be packed and delivered directly from the new center. That will shorten the time between ordering and delivery.
Sustainability has also been considered. The center will run 100% on solar energy. That adds to the online supermarket’s vision and goal. It wants to become Denmark’s most sustainable supermarket.
Stefan Plenge: “We expect this investment to create more than 1.000 jobs in East Jutland. These will be in the warehouse, packaging, IT, and HR departments. We’re, therefore, already starting to recruit managers and specialists. We want to be fully prepared when we open the distribution center in 2022,” Plenge concludes.
