2020/21 citrus production benefits from improved weather and consistent rain

Moroccan MY 2020/21 citrus production has benefitted from improved weather and consistent rain. However, production estimates remain unchanged, based on no new official Moroccan production data.

Moroccan citrus exporters report they face competition from Egypt, Turkey, and Spain. Therefore, MY 2020/21 export figures for fresh oranges and lemons/limes have been revised down in response to strong domestic sales. Trade numbers for tangerines/ mandarins and oranges in MY 2019/20 have been adjusted, based on final data from Morocco’s office des changes.

Production update
FAS estimates for oranges, lemons, mandarins, and orange juice remain unchanged. This reflects Ministry of Agriculture estimates, which have not been updated since the last Annual Citrus report.

Industry does not report any major events that would predicate a revision to estimates at this time. Weather conditions in Morocco have remained cool and wet, a contrast from drought conditions and heat stress during the last two production seasons, especially during the flowering period.
