Agromediterranea’s live lettuces – award for one of the best ideas of the year

Agromediterránea, a company specialized in the production and distribution of fresh vegetables, has been awarded as one of the ‘100 Best Ideas of the Year’ in terms of Sustainability for its research project to grow live lettuces. The Actualidad Economica magazine granted this recognition to Agromediterranea, a company of the Foodiverse group, in the 43rd edition of these awards.

“We are farmers of the 21st century. That means that sustainability and innovation are part of the way we work every day. We are very proud that our commitment and the effort of our entire human team is recognized by prestigious awards, such as this one, and by our clients,” stated Jesus Gomez, the general director of Agromediterranea, after receiving the award.

The ‘100 Best Ideas of the Year’ awards the company’s best initiatives and innovative products in different categories: digital transformation, health, connectivity, environment, industry 4.0, SMEs and startups, transport, and mobility, among others. The publication has recognized the value of Agromediterranea’s project within the Sustainability category.

This innovation project, developed by the company in its Center for Agronomic Innovation (CIAM), aims to ensure that the product reaches the final consumer fresher and cleaner. To achieve this, the company carried out a strategy based on vertical hydroponic cultivation, without soil, with no phytosanitary treatments.

The awarded project was developed, in its first phase, with oak leaf lettuce (Chicorium Intybus), though the goal is to incorporate other varieties and, soon, new plant products.

This product, which will be sold under the Sun & Vegs brand, brings together the company’s commitment to the environment and healthy eating.
