The Vinaròs Civil Guard’s Roca Team has arrested two people from the towns of Tarragona de Santa Barbara and Amposta that are suspected committed five crimes of theft, threats, and documentary falsification between March and May of this year. The authorities have also investigated a person in Manlleu, Barcelona, for handling the stolen goods.
On April 12, the victim of the crimes in a farm located in Vinaròs told authorities that he had surprised two men stealing oranges and that one of them had threatened him as they escaped.
During the investigation, authorities found evidence of four other thefts of oranges in the towns of Vinaros, San Jordi, and Traiguera, which were also denounced.
During the police operation, authorities discovered that the alleged criminals that were surprised by the owner of the orchard presented sales invoices for the oranges that included a stamp of a company located in Manlleu, as well as details of the administrator and buyer of the merchandise. Authorities discovered that the company was fictitious and that the person listed as manager used a van of his property to steal citrus.
This person was responsible for selling the illegally obtained oranges to a third party, a male owner of an establishment in the town of Manlleu who was in charge of placing the items in the market.
According to estimates, the crooks stole some 35,000 kilograms of oranges from 5 farms and obtained an economic benefit of 19,250 euro.
