MAFI issues 1,000 approval letters to pineapple entrepreneurs

Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) has issued around 1,000 movement permission letters to pineapple entrepreneurs across the country. It allows the latter to carry out agriculture, marketing and processing activities during the current period of Movement Control Order 3.0.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandi said that the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) had also marketed 22 tons of pineapple to help the affected growers: “During the implementation period of MCO 3.0 from June 1 till now, LPNM has assisted affected farmers by providing logistics for distribution and marketing of pineapples to middlemen and wholesalers.”

Kiandi said that the efforts of LPNM have significantly reduced the issue of non-marketability faced by pineapple growers during MCO 3.0 as compared to MCO 1.0 and MCO 2.0. According to him, this proves that the government wants to ensure that farmers and entrepreneurs can market their agricultural produce to balance the economic and health needs of the people.
