New Northwestern cherry sales season starts in China

Northwestern Cherries and Hema Fresh recently held an event celebrating the start of the new Northwestern cherry season in Hema’s Daning Store in Shanghai. Mr. Erik Hansen, Director of the Agricultural Trade Office of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, Mr. Wang Miao, Director of China Marketing, Northwest Cherries, Mr. Zhang Ji, Head of Fruit Sourcing in Shanghai of Hema Fresh, and Mr. Zhang Liwei, Store Manager of Hema Fresh Daning Store, were among the guests of the event.

“Cherries grown in acres upon acres of orchards in the northwest of the United States are gorgeous in color and deliciously sweet. From early June to mid-to-late August, Northwestern cherries such as Chelan, Bing, Lapins, Skeena, Sweetheart, Regina, and Rainier are on the market, offering their refreshing sweetness,” said Mr. Erik Hansen, Director of the Agricultural Trade Office of the US Consulate General in Shanghai.

China is the most important overseas market for Northwestern cherries. Most products are shipped by air, but some also arrive in the Chinese market by sea from the mid and late season. The entire transportation process is covered by the intelligent cold chain to ensure that consumers can taste the fresh Northwest cherries as if they were just picked from the tree.

The new sales season has started in full swing in the Chinese market. Products can be found both offline and online – brick and mortar supermarkets such as Sam’s Club, Walmart, Wanjia, and Ole’; new retail channels such as Hema, Tianhong, and 7 Fresh; online channels such as Tmall, JD.com, and FruiDay – consumers can easily find the first fresh and delicious Northwestern cherries.
