Event organizer Scott Gurney succinctly summarizes Brewery & The Beast as a “festival of meat, beer and music.”
The multi-city event, which takes place this Sunday in Vancouver before popping up in Victoria on Sept. 25, features B.C. brewers, chefs, food producers and musicians who share an appreciation for meat, beer and music.
“It’s a one-of-a-kind culinary event,” Gurney says.
While Gurney admits the food-and-beer event is undoubtedly a “meat lover’s paradise,” he says there are a few offerings for those who prefer a little something different.
“There are a few sneaky offerings that are not 100 per cent meat-centric,” Gurney says. “Some chefs will create dishes using seafood, freshwater fish, and even a few vegetarian offerings can pop up from time to time.
“But, all in all, this event is definitely for the carnivores!”
This year’s event will feature more than 60 local chefs including Top Chef Canada runner-up Kym Nguyen, Robert Belcham of Popina Canteen, and Kelowna’s “edible storyteller” Aman Dosanj, according to a news release. Restaurant teams from the likes of Juke Fried Kitchen, Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar and Osterio Savio Volpe will also be serving up some meaty morsels.
Three local breweries will be highlighted — Red Truck, Driftwood, and Vancouver Island Brewing — along with assorted cocktails, wines and ciders.
The all-inclusive ticket price pays for an “all-you-can-enjoy” event with access to all food and drink samples as well as live music and more. Festival organizers say partial proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to Chefs’ Table Society of B.C., a provincewide chef collaborative.
