Walmart Canada complete multi-million dollar renovation of Cornwall supercentre

Walmart Canada has completed a multi-million dollar renovation project at the Cornwall Supercentre in Cornwall, Ont. The move comes amid the retailer’s five-year, $3.5 billion plan to improve store infrastructure and enhance the customer experience.

“Walmart Canada has an ambition to be the most trusted retailer for Canadians. This is what we’ve worked towards for the last 30 years, and it’s why we continue to invest, including nearly $1 billion this year, to build an even more efficient, consistent, and reliable omnichannel experience for Canadians,” Gonzalo Gebara, president and CEO of Walmart Canada, said.

The Cornwall Supercentre, located at 420 Ninth St. W., has significantly improved over the last several months. The transformation includes a refreshed look, more precise navigation, new aisle markers, and enhanced customer-facing signage to create a shopping environment. It also includes a more extensive assortment of international foods.

The company says the fashion and shoe departments have transformed to meet the evolving preferences of the Cornwall community. The project also included renovated washrooms, improved marketing packages, and additional navigation signage to contribute to an overall improved shopping experience for Walmart patrons.

During a grand opening event earlier this month, accolades were given to the entire Cornwall team for their efforts in minimizing the impact of the transformation on local shoppers. Walmart also distributed cheques to charitable organizations in the town.

“We’re excited to welcome our customers into our modernized stores and for them to experience the future of Walmart Canada, no matter how they shop with us,” Gebara said.

In addition to the Supercentre, the company says Cornwall expected to fill a vital role in Walmart’s Canadian operations. It will serve as the central distribution hub for Eastern Canada, with two large distribution centres in the Cornwall Business Park, along with Walmart fleet operations.
