Bia Analytical receives ISO 17025 accreditation

Bia Analytical has announced it has achieved ISO 17025 accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) across herbs and spices authenticity testing methods in its laboratory.

The accreditation serves to highlight the company’s commitment to providing the highest quality services to its customers and partners, as it delivers world leading testing and products, said the analyst.

The accreditation recognises Bia Analytical’s technical competence and demonstrates that the Belfast based laboratory has achieved a level of impartiality and operational consistency.

Terry McGrath, Bia Analytical founder and chief scientific officer stated that since the firm’s inception it has been striving to ensure the laboratory-based testing has been at the highest level of excellence.

“To achieve this accreditation is testament to the dedication and hard work of the Bia Analytical team and gives our customers external validation of what they already knew, regarding the high quality of our services,” McGrath added.

Bia Analytical reduces exposure to the risk of food fraud across the entire food supply chain using industry-leading, cutting-edge spectroscopy and data science-based testing methods.

Spectroscopy combined with chemometric modelling is the most reliable method for adulteration detection. This technology enables Bia Analytical to provide results within a guaranteed three working day turnaround, empowering food producers and their suppliers to make decisions and retain consumer confidence in their products.

Simon Cole, Bia Analytical CEO commented: “We are thrilled to have been accredited with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for our laboratory testing. This is the result of an incredible amount of hard work and dedication by the team and highlights the efforts that we are investing to bring the best service possible to our customers and partners.”

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is globally recognised international standard that sets a recognised and verifiable level of best practice so that customers can be confident that a testing provider operates competently and generates valid results.

Cole further added: “As supply chain pressures continue to be exerted upon the food industry, fraud and the associated risk are a constant concern. This certification further signals our intent to lead the global industry with ground-breaking testing methods to ensure confidence for both the consumer and the supplier alike.”
