Café Castelo launches a universal coffee

Quebec-based Café Castelo releases a new type of coffee called the Universal Grind. It can be used in nearly all coffee machines and brewing methods globally. Additionally, the Universal Grind technology enables using 20 to 40 per cent less coffee per cup while achieving optimal extraction, according to a company statement. Traditionally, each brewing method and each coffee maker brand required a specific grind to produce optimal coffee. This is no longer necessary with the Universal Grind.

“Our latest innovation, the Universal Grind, will provide significant economic, ecological, and practical advantages to both consumers and the global agri-food industry. In an era of transition towards more sustainable development, it will help the coffee industry to maintain its competitiveness. It is worth noting that this new technology developed by Café Castelo does not require the use of any chemicals, preservatives, or additives. It is the result of research and development investments that created this revolutionary combination of different mechanical processes,” said a media statement.

“We set out to find a solution to use fewer resources while obtaining the same quality of coffee per cup. Our goal was also to offer a cleaner and more sustainable alternative. The Universal Grind provides a solution that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, production, transportation, land usage, and waste, while allowing for more cups of coffee to be enjoyed,” added Predrag Okuka, co-founder and president of Café Castelo.
