20 must-try Italian wines at the Vancouver International Wine Festival

With Italy the theme country of this year’s Vancouver International Wine Festival, we’re guessing sampling a selection of the country’s impressive wines is top of mind. And there are a lot of them.

To help ensure you sip some of the best, Vancouver Sun wine expert Anthony Gismondi has come up with a list of Italian wines that are not to be missed this year.

Here is s list of unique Italian wines to sample in the Vancouver International Wine Festival Tasting Room.

5 interesting facts about the 45th Vancouver International Wine Festival

• This year’s festival will see 149 wineries from 12 countries participate in the eight-day event. Of the participating wineries, 71 will be from Italy, the theme country of this year’s festival.

• The festival will feature more than 1,100 wines, including 800 wines in the Tasting Room and 350 wines featured at special festival events such as dinners and seminars.

• An estimated 20,000 bottles of wine will be purchased and/or poured during the festival.

• This year’s festival will include 42 events taking place at 23 venues throughout Vancouver.

• Since 1979, the Vancouver International Wine Festival has raised more than $2 million for its current performing arts partner, Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival.
