Loblaw and Sobeys have been recognized by Canadian food rescue organization Second Harvest.
Loblaw has won the ‘Second Harvest Impact Award’ at the 2024 Food Rescue Awards. Sobeys has received the Partner of the Year (Food) Award for the second year in a row and was also recognized with the Food Justice Advocate Award.
The grocers were among other organizations and individuals recognized at a Feb. 13 awards event.
Last year, Loblaw donated over 19,792,041 pounds of surplus food to Second Harvest — equivalent to the weight of approximately 1,500 adult African elephants.
Sobeys has donated over 23 million pounds of surplus food to local charities to help Canadians struggling with food insecurity.
The annual Second Harvest Food Rescue Awards celebrate the best groups and individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to rescuing surplus edible food in Canada.
