Syrian grocery store in Ontario celebrating 20 years in business

Ammar’s Market, a Syrian family-owned grocery and Halal butcher shop in Kitchener, Ont. is celebrating its 20th anniversary ahead of Ramadan.

Established by the Al-hendi family in the Breithaupt area of Kitchener, the store has served as a hub for locals and newcomers from Syria.

The celebration will occur Monday, March 4, at the store on 317 Lancaster St. W. As part of the anniversary celebration, Ammar’s Market is also organizing a food and fund drive fundraiser for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Dignitaries and community leaders are expected to attend.
