Brewing Success: Tea – Grocery Business Magazine

Tea is one of the oldest beverages in the world and the third most popular drink after coffee. In 2023, the tea market in Canada generated revenue of $0.5 billion and is projected to see an annual growth rate of 3.39 per cent (CAGR 2024-2028), with volume growth of 1.2 per cent in 2025, according to recent sales data and projections from Statistics Canada and Statista.

Nick Mattiace of Husky Food Importers & Distributors, which manages Taylors of Harrogate tea products in Canada, says consumers are more willing to trade up and pay more for a better cup of tea, and at the same time, are becoming more loyal towards the brands they purchase.

“Tea is regaining its reset moment and preferences are trending towards bolder, stronger tea,” says Mattiace, who shared his insights along with information from Taylors’ Alex Murphy, international business manager, and Caryl Murphy, senior brand and activation manager.

The trio say climate change and health concerns are driving demand for sustainability sourced teas, herbal teas and decaffeinated offerings.
