Aldi’s partnership with Too Good To Go saves shoppers over £7 million

Working in partnership with Too Good To Go, discount retailer Aldi claims that it has helped shoppers save over £7 since the launch of the collaboration.

Discount retailer Aldi has announced that since it has partnered with Too Good To Go, a food redistribution platform, it has helped shoppers save over £7 million.

As part of the collaboration, consumers are able to purchase bags of surplus food, and since February 2023 a over half a million “Surprise bags” have reportedly been sold.

According to Aldi this has avoided an estimated 1,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions through selling discounted food that would have otherwise gone to waste.

Shoppers were able to purchase  bags which contains a range of grocery products that are approaching their sell-by or use-by dates and are offered at a reduced price.

Sharing the locations where the shoppers have “saved the most” money through purchasing Too Good To Go Bags, Aldi said that Birmingham came out on top, where an estimated 14,000 surprise bags have been purchased so far. It claims that it has saved shoppers the equivalent of “more than £270,000”.

Waste not, want not: Rethinking food waste

London followed closely behind with 11,800 bags purchased in the capital and over £230,000 saved, meanwhile those in Liverpool and Northampton reportedly saved around £130,000 and £100,000 respectively.

“It is amazing to see the sheer number of our customers that have made the most of our Too Good To Go Surprise Bags since launching last year,” said Liz Fox, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK,

“This partnership not only allows us to reduce food waste and demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable retailer, but also enables our customers to access quality food whilst saving even more on their shop,” concluded Fox.
