Indigenous fashion designer Justin Jacob Louis has partnered with Canadian brand Roots to create a capsule collection of pieces said to be inspired by the Cree community, Indigenous craftsmanship, and the designer’s background in sports.
The collection features a few clothing pieces, including a hoodie and Louis’ spin on the iconic Roots varsity jacket, as well as a curated selection of leather goods.
“The most rewarding part of this process, and any design experience I’m involved in, is being able to watch something you conceptualized in your mind physically come to life,” Louis, the founder and creative director of Section 35, said. “I hope this collection is something that resonates with people and that everyone appreciates the thought and craftsmanship that went into the creation of the collection.”

In other fashion collab news (while not local but still buzzworthy) athletic wear brand On has teamed up again with Spanish fashion house Loewe to release a fitness-fashion collection for men and women.

And Vancouver-based foundation Cause We Care has released its latest collection with Blue Ruby jewelry, adding to the pair’s 11-year strong partnership that has raised more than $1 million for local single mothers and their children.
