Target will close its only location in East Palo Alto, Calif., reports KGO-TV in San Francisco.
The store will be powered down in September, leaving the city with just one pharmacy and a few grocery options to serve a population of 28,000.
Target has not responded to a request for comment, but the retailer did tell KGO-TV that the store had been underperforming.
The city has been working on a new economic development plan. The shopping plaza where the Target is located also has an IKEA, Home Depot, and a Nordstrom Rack.
