Halloween weather in Metro Vancouver can be hit-or-miss when it comes to trick or treating.
It might be a crisp and cool evening or it might be a wet and dreary night. Then throw a couple of kids in costumes into the mix and you’ve got the recipe for challenging night out trick-or-treating.
If you’re looking to stay dry or if you’ve got littles that won’t be able to stay up late, here’s where you can trick or treat indoors or earlier in Metro Vancouver and still go home with a haul of candy.

Where: Capilano Mall (935 Marine Dr., North Vancouver)
When: Oct. 31 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Is it indoor? Yes, this event is indoors.
Visit stores marked with a spooky decal to receive free “ghoulish goodies” while supplies last. There’s also a live DJ playing music, appearances from The Addams Family characters, and a chance to snap a selfie to win a $250 gift card at this free, family-friendly event.

Where: The City of Lougheed Shopping Centre (9855 Austin Rd., Burnaby)
When: Oct. 11 to 31
Is it indoor? Yes, this event is indoors.
Lougheed mall isn’t doing a traditional trick-or-treat event, however, kids 12 and under can visit guest services to for a Halloween passport that will take them on an adventure around the mall. Complete the challenges and then return to guest services for a special sticker and treat.

Where: Hastings Street in Burnaby, between Boundary Road and Gamma Avenue.
When: Oct. 31 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Is it indoor? No, it is not.
Visit merchants in Burnaby Heights (Hastings between Boundary and Gamma) that have a pumpkin decal in their window or on their door for a sweet treat on Oct. 31. But keep an eye out, as there will be “mystical characters” roving the neighbourhood at the same time, performing mind-boggling tricks.

Where: Museum of Surrey (17710 56a Ave., Surrey)
When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Is it indoor? Yes, this event is indoors.
If you’ve got a little who gets easily overwhelmed or is sensitive to scary decor and noisy music, check out the Museum of Surrey’s Sensory Trick or Treat event on Friday evening, Oct. 25. Organizers promise there won’t be any rushing around or monsters jumping out but that kids will be able to make their own way to different treat stations.

Where: Kingsgate Mall (370 East Broadway, Vancouver); Main Street between East 7th and 28th
When: Oct. 31 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Is it indoor? It’s indoor and outdoors.
For those in or around the Mount Pleasant area, you can check out indoor trick or treating and activities at Kingsgate Mall but also wander outdoors along Main Street, between East 7th to 29th to visit businesses for a treat. Just look for shops with the pumpkin poster in the window. This event is family-friendly and welcomes all ages.
Where: Metropolis at Metrotown (4700 Kingsway, Burnaby)
When: Oct. 31 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Is it indoor? Yes, this event is indoor.
Visit the grand court at Metropolis at Metrotown for fun Halloween activities such as balloon art, free face painting, and themed photo ops! Then make your way around the mall and visit participating retailers to snag Halloween candy. Costumes are encouraged.
Where: The Amazing Brentwood (4567 Lougheed Hwy., Burnaby)
When: Oct. 31 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Visit The Amazing Brentwood on Halloween for a power hour of indoor trick or treating between 4 to 5 p.m., while a live DJ plays music. More than 70 retailers will be participating and ready to fill up your treat bags. Look for the Brentwood Boo sign in shop windows.
Where: Coquitlam Centre (2929 Barnet Hwy., Coquitlam)
When: Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 from 12 to 3 p.m.
Is it indoor? Yes, this event is indoor.
If Halloween falling on a weekday throws a wrench into the household schedule, you can always check out Coquitlam Centre’s early Halloween event on Saturday, Oct. 26. Throw on a costume and visit treat stations located around the mall to pick up some treats. Stations are located near Best Buy, London Drugs, Purdys Chocolatier, between Hudson’s Bay and the food court, Walmart, and Miniso.

Where: Cambie VIllage (Cambie and 18th, Vancouver)
When: Saturday, Oct. 26 from 12 to 3 p.m. while supplies last
Is it indoor? No, this is outdoors.
For little pirates, check out Cambie Village’s trick or treat trail. Visit Cambie and 18th to collect a map detailing which businesses along Cambie will have treats to hand out.
Where: Granville Island Kids Market (1496 Cartwright St., Vancouver)
When: Sunday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Is it indoor? Yes, this event is indoors.
Put on your costume and grab a loot bag and head down to Granville Island’s Kids Market to collect some treats and snap a photo at a Halloween-themed photo booth.
Where: Aberdeen Centre (4151 Hazelbridge Way, Richmond)
When: Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Visit Aberdeen on Halloween (see what I did there?) for an indoor, family-friendly trick or treat experience at participating shops.

Visit participating businesses along New Westminster’s Columbia Street to collect treats and joint the fun. This year’s event has been shortened to run only until 3 p.m. so take note.

Start by visiting the concierge desk and if you’re one of the first 1,000 kids wearing a costume, you’ll get a complimentary loot bag to collect all your treats. Then visiting participating retailers that have balloons at their door to hunt down your Halloween haul!
