Of the 4525 eligible voters, 69.3 per cent participated in the referendum, which saw the yes vote eke out a victory with 51.2 per cent – a difference of 78 votes.

“We are so pleased that South Bruce voters came out to have their say on this important decision,” said Mayor Mark Goetz. “It is an extremely proud moment to have our community make such a momentous decision through a democratic vote.”

While the vote determined if the Municipality was a willing project host, it does not guarantee that the Nuclear Waste Management Organization would choose it.

The Saugeen Ojibway Nation still needs to weigh in on whether their community agrees to be a willing host and has indicated their decision will occur in the new year.

Farmtario will update the story as more information becomes available.
