The Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) awards $130k to seven F&B companies in Atlantic Canada through the Unpuzzling: Greening Your Food Manufacturing Operation Program. The funding will help these companies track and reduce the environmental impact of their operations.
“Sustainability is a critical focus for Atlantic Canada’s food sector, and CFIN’s support is helping food manufacturers gather the knowledge and resources they need to make impactful, long-term changes to their operations. By addressing key challenges such as energy use, food waste, and packaging, these companies are not only becoming more sustainable — they are improving their bottom line in the process,” said Dana McCauley, CEO of CFIN.
The selected companies include:
Tony’s Meats will use the funding to assess its energy consumption at its 38,000-sf production facility. The company further plans to identify opportunities for reduction, implement conservation measures and install new monitoring systems.
Other companies participating in the program will use the funding for facility energy audits, installation of new sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, and for the development of sustainable operations plans.
