Tractor Supply Grows Long-Term Store Goal to 3,200 Locations

Tractor Supply Co. plans to open approximately 100 new stores in 2025 as it moves toward its eventual goal of operating 3,200 locations — 200 more stores than its previous target — as part of its Life Out Here 2030 strategic vision.

The rural-oriented retailer, which currently operates 2,270 stores in 49 states, also revealed plans to:

  • Enhance localization at individual stores;
  • Explore B2B direct-sales opportunities with larger farms, SMBs and event spaces;
  • Expand capabilities to grow share of wallet with pet and animal customers (10 of the new 2025 stores will be Petsense locations);
  • Scale up a Tractor Supply retail media network to support brand partners and activate a new revenue stream;
  • Create a scalable final mile delivery solution to provide customers with greater order visibility and delivery reliability; and
  • Increase penetration of private label and exclusive licensed brands.

Executives also provided a summary of Tractor Supply’s progress since initiating the Life Out Here strategy in October 2020:

  • Scaling its Project Fusion store layout and remodel program to approximately 50% of all stores;
  • Completing more than 550 garden centers;
  • Adding 22 million members to its Neighbor’s Club loyalty program;
  • Growing digital sales by more than 340%; and
  • Opening 13 distribution facilities.

“Tractor Supply has a rich history and track record of success,” said Hal Lawton, President and CEO of Tractor Supply in a statement. “Over the last five years, we have delivered strong financial performance and enhanced our competitive advantages through the execution of our Life Out Here strategy. With an expanded total addressable market of $225 billion [updated from $180 billion], we have significant runway for growth. Our Life Out Here 2030 strategy continues the momentum of our existing initiatives as well as launches new initiatives such as Pet Rx and direct sales.”

For its Q3 2024, which ended Sept. 28, 2024, Tractor Supply generated net sales of $3.47 billion, a 1.6% increase compared to the same period the previous year, with comparable store sales declining by 0.2%. Tractor Supply purchased online pet pharmacy retailer Allivet in October 2024.

Tractor Supply faced criticism in July 2024 when the retailer announced plans to abandon diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) roles and pull support from “nonbusiness” LGBTQ+ and voter registration initiatives.
