Albertsons Hosts Third Annual Innovative Food and Pet Products Competition

Albertsons has once again launched its Innovation Launchpad competition, seeking emerging brands in the food, beverage and pet categories for the third iteration of the contest that began in 2022. Independent brands with $3 to $10 million in net retail sales can apply through Jan. 19, 2025 for the chance to win $300,000 in cash and industry services, as well as the opportunity to be merchandised in Albertsons’ banner supermarkets.

As part of the competition, 50 applicants will be chosen to present their brands to a panel of judges, with the top three earning the $300,000 prizes. The products should reflect themes such as functional beverage, sober-curious beverages, hydration, low sugar or carb, protein solutions, global flavors, healthy meal solutions or premium pet items.

“Since the competition began in 2022, we have received an overwhelming response from entrepreneurs eager to showcase their products,” said Omer Gajial, EVP of Merchandising and Chief Digital Officer at Albertsons in a statement. “We are thrilled to host this competition again as it not only creates opportunities for emerging brands but also allows us to discover new and innovative products to delight our customers.”

Last year’s competition attracted more than 700 applicants; the three grand prize winners were WunderEggsEvergreen and Blue Zones Kitchen. WunderEggs, a plant-based egg alternative, is now being sold at 1,600 Albertsons stores including Safeway, Acme, Albertsons, Shaw’s and Vons.
