New 2,500-bushel grain cart from Unverferth

Glacier FarmMedia – Unverferth has just introduced the new model 2520 grain cart, which pushes at the upper capacity limits of its cart line with a 2,500-bushel load rating. It’s the biggest cart the brand has ever built.

Getting grain out of the cart won’t take more than about two and a half minutes with the cart’s pivoting 24-inch diameter vertical auger and 20-inch horizontal auger.

The cart operator can precisely place grain in a truck using a four-way directional downspout controlled by a joystick mounted in the tractor cab. The joystick also controls all the other auger operations, such as folding, pivoting and flow gate control.

To carry all that weight, the cart rides on a high-flotation undercarriage that uses the brand’s Equalizer hydraulically tensioned track system.

Could trap crops help fend off lygus in faba beans?

The idea under study here is simple: plant something even more attractive than faba beans along the field edge, draw lygus in and hit them with an insecticide before they move on.

The Equalizer track is 50 inches wide and 148 inches long, with front and rear as well as side-to-side oscillation. The tracks are equipped with an auto greaser to lubricate pivoting points at regular intervals. The cart also has tongue-cushioned suspension to smooth out the ride.

To aid in cleanout between crop types, there is an access hatch at the rear, with a ladder to make entry easier. Large viewing windows and a roll tarp are also on the list of standard features.

The available UHarvest Pro system allows the cart to connect with an Isobus-compatible virtual terminal in a tractor to relay scale weight readouts along with other data collection functions, such as monitoring the hitch weight in real time to avoid overloading the tractor hitch.

UHarvest Pro automatically tracks each load, collecting data on the field and crop as well as the truck, destination and crop variety, for reporting via the included Slingshot cloud storage account.

UHarvest Pro can also be equipped with a moisture sensor, and the Accu-Load kit can automatically unload to a pre-determined weight.

Any of the available scale packages can include a side-mounted LED readout on the cart to show load weight.

To help keep excess chaff and dust cleaned off combines in the field or put out fires, the cart can also be equipped with a 275-gallon water tank. A rear hitch rated for 20,000 pounds can be used to tow a header trailer.
