VIDEO: New Holland W100D wheel loader

The number of machines with applications crossing over from construction to agriculture continues to grow, especially as manufacturers recognize the market for smaller, heavier-duty loaders on today’s larger farms.

The latest machine to debut into that crossover category is New Holland Construction’s W100D wheel loader. As well, the brand has been focusing on promoting it to the agricultural market.

“We just launched this (in July),” says Dan Kakareka, New Holland Construction’s product marketing manager.

“This is the brand new W100D. This is the largest machine in the New Holland Construction lineup. This is the next generation of wheel loader.”

The range-topping W100D gets power from a 3.6-litre FPT diesel engine that puts out 112 horsepower. That engine includes features like eco mode and auto idle.

It’s mated to a hydrostatic transmission capable of moving it down the road at 40 km-h.

A 1.9 cubic yard bucket is standard, but there is an option to fit the loader arms with a 2.2 cubic yard high-capacity bucket instead. To equip the W100D with powered front attachments, JRB-compatible couplers are standard, but optional ISO couplers are also available.

Standard hydraulic auxiliary couplers provide a 22 g.p.m. flow rate with the option of going to a 33 g.p.m. system at 4,000 p.s.i.

The arm can lift loads up to a 145-inches height at the hinge pins and a lift capacity of almost 15,000 pounds, which should easily reach over top of any standard truck box.

“With this machine, you’re going to have the lift height and capacity to get to all your hoppers,” says Kakareka.

The cab gets a redesigned front windshield for better visibility along with some of the high-end operator comfort features one might expect, such as a heated air ride seat and Bluetooth capabilities. There’s also a new monitor and rear-view camera.
