Ace Hardware, 100 Years Young, Celebrates 100 New Stores in 2024

Ace Hardware remains remarkably spry for a centenarian. The retailer-owned cooperative has already opened 100 new stores this year, halfway to its goal of 200 store openings by the end of 2024. One of those new stores, in Roswell, Ga., was the retailer’s 5,000th U.S. location; Ace now operates more than 5,800 stores across all 50 states and 60 countries.

“I’m so proud to announce our 100th new store opening of the year in the 100th anniversary of the company,” said John Venhuizen, President and CEO of Ace Hardware in a statement. “This serendipitous symmetry is a beautiful testament to the enduring relevance in our faith that human connection and a servant heart is not the enemy of a successful business, it’s the enabler.”

Ace has been on an aggressive growth path for the last several years: by August 2023, the retailer had opened more than 100 new stores in that calendar year, following similar expansion rates in 2022. The growth has come from existing retailers opening additional locations, competitors converting to Ace and new investors opening their first Ace Hardware store.

The retailer also marked its centennial with the introduction of its first private label products, Loud Mouth Barbeque sauces and Vintage Threads, a private label apparel collection featuring historic logos from the company’s history.
