Aldi plans to increase its fruit sales by 10% in Spain this summer season

Aldi will buy a total of 10,900 tons of seasonal fruit of national origin between April and September, a period in which it expects to increase its fruit sales by more than 10% over the same period of the previous year.

In tons, with the exception of melons and watermelons, the most sold fruits during the past year were peaches, nectarines, and donut peaches.

The supermarket chain acquires summer fruit from suppliers mainly in Andalusia, Murcia, Catalonia, Aragon, and Extremadura. Specifically, the company acquires melons and watermelons from suppliers in Almeria; peaches, nectarines, apricots, cherries, plums, melons, and watermelons from Murcia; nectarines, cherries, peaches, donut peaches, and plums from Lleida; peaches and cherries from Tarragona; plums, donut peaches, nectarines, flat nectarines, and peaches from Aragon; donut peaches, cherries, and plums from Extremadura; and medlars from Granada.

According to the third edition of the Aldi Fresh Observatory 2021, during 2020, fresh products accounted for 40% of the families’ annual spending on food. 36% of this amount was used to purchase fruit and vegetables, i.e. one of every three euro. Since 2016, the purchase of fruit and vegetables in Spain has increased by more than 3%, a growth that has accelerated due to the pandemic.
