Aldi sets sights on further UK expansion

Discount supermarket Aldi has unveiled plans to open a further 10 stores in the UK over the coming months.

The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, Aldi, has announced expansion plans and is set to open a further 10 stores in the coming months.

The stores will be popping up across the country, with two new locations set to open just next month. These include Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire and Olney Park in Milton Keynes.

Further down the line Aberdare in Wales, Broughty Ferry in Dundee and Leytonstone in London will be opening new stores “in the near future”.

Consumer’s up and down the country appear to be big fans of the German discount-retailer, with YouGov ranking Aldi up top along with Lidl, both scoring 78 percent when it comes to popularity.   

In 2024 alone, Aldi has revealed plans to open 35 new stores in total, and has said that it is “on track” to meet this goal. To view the locations of the full list of stores set to open, click this link.

Looking long-term, the discount retailer has a target of opening up 1,500 stores in the UK – with the supermarket set to invest £550 million in expanding its UK footprint in 2024.

“At Aldi, we want to ensure that high quality yet affordable food is available to everyone which is why we are continuing to expand across the UK,” said Jonathan Neale, Real Estate Managing Director at Aldi UK.

“We have already opened several new stores this year, from Skelmersdale in Lancashire and Newport in Wales to Castle Gresley in Derbyshire and High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and now we’re excited to bring Aldi to even more communities over the coming months,” concluded Neale.
