The Danish water technology company Aquaporin has partnered with the processing company Flavourtech to deliver natural concentration technology to the food and beverage (F&B) industry to produce high-quality, natural aromas.

Aquaporin’s CEO Matt Boczkowski sees great potential in the collaboration for both parties based on their reputation, knowledge, and strong customer relations built over decades in the F&B industry.

“With this new technology, Flavourtech will be able to deliver a new and innovative solution to their global customer base that pushes the boundaries of aroma and flavour retention,” he said.

Leon Skaliotis, general manager at Flavourtech, agreed with the upside in partnering with Aquaporin due to its technology enabling the provision of higher quality products and enforcing points of differentiation over the  competition.

He added: “This is definitely a step in the right direction, a step forward in technologies and to a bright future with better flavours, naturally.”

Aquaporin’s natural concentration technology doesn’t use traditional heat and pressure processes. In this way, customers in the F&B industry can produce highly concentrated, natural aroma concentrates with original flavours and characteristics of everything from fruits and berries to coffee.

Until now, aroma concentrates have mainly been produced using thermal evaporation which is both energy-consuming and results in a loss and change of flavour and fragrance.

Aquaporin’s natural concentration technology uses nature’s own water filtration process to extract water from raw ingredients, and the system incorporates the company’s decade-long experience in application development to bring a powerful and easy-to-use solution to customer

In the agreement, Flavourtech will have the rights and responsibility to market and sell Aquaporin systems and membranes exclusively in the coffee aroma and flavour segments and in coffee and tea extracts on a project basis.

As part of the agreement, Flavourtech will purchase a system from Aquaporin to further develop the market for this new technology and create next-level aromas together with their customers.

The pilot system is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2022.
