European dairy cooperative Arla Foods has signed a licensing agreement with snacks company Mondelēz International to produce, distribute and market chocolate milk under the Milka brand in Germany, Austria and Poland.
Arla Foods is expanding its portfolio with the addition of one of the most popular chocolate brands around. Utilising the strong brand recognition and consumer loyalty of Milka, Arla Foods will leverage its expertise in dairy innovation and quality to secure growth in the very mature chocolate milk category.
“I am very excited about signing a long-term strategic partnership with Mondelēz International and to bring tasteful and in-demand products to our consumers. Milka is a beloved brand, and I know we have the production, commercial and marketing expertise to take it to the next level, which is why our ambition is clear: we want to achieve number one or two positions in our launch markets,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Arla Foods, Patrik Hansson.
The Milka brand, owned by Mondelēz International, is one of the most popular chocolate brands in Europe and successful licensing partnerships in categories such as ice cream, cakes and bakery have already been established.
Following suit, Arla Foods will now launch chocolate milk drinks in Germany, Austria and Poland, where Milka is one of the leading players in chocolate. And, with this product innovation, consumers will now have the option of indulging in the iconic Milka flavour in the form of a chocolate milk.
Clive Jones, President of Central Europe and EU Central Sales at Mondelēz International, said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the new Milka chocolate milk in partnership with Arla. This collaboration allows us to expand the beloved Milka brand across Europe and introduce consumers to an exciting new way to enjoy their favorite chocolate. As we continue to innovate and develop our portfolio, this new category marks a significant milestone in Milka’s success story.”
The Milka chocolate milk will launch in June 2024 and come in three different pack sizes and three different flavours. They will be produced at Esbjerg Dairy in Denmark.
