Barry Callebaut opens global innovation centre

Barry Callebaut establishes a global innovation centre (GIC) in Singapore.

The GIC will house two centres of excellence. One will be dedicated to artificial intelligence and another will focus on product development in coatings and fillings.

“Chocolate and cocoa have been traded out of Singapore for a long time. We are building on this foundation to leverage on R&D, innovation and AI to develop new products and experiences. This latest investment by the world’s largest chocolate and cocoa company underscores Singapore’s role as an innovative and leading trading hub,” said Lee Pak Sing, assistant managing director for Trade and Connectivity at Enterprise Singapore.

The site is also home to the Callebaut Chocolate Academy alongside a research and development facility that works on turning consumer trends and customer briefs into new concepts.

In addition to the GIC, Barry Callebaut opens a pilot lab at the Senoko chocolate factory in Singapore for prototyping, small batch production and process testing.
