BioPak’s new line of Beer BioCups offers sustainable alternatives for outdoor venues

Global sustainable packaging company BioPak has launched a brand new compostable Beer BioCup range for the outdoor venue and events sector.

Designed specifically for outdoor venues, stadiums, events, clubs, and pubs where reusable cup systems have not yet been implemented, BioPak’s Beer BioCups provide a “better alternative to the large volume of disposable cups made from conventional plastic” used at such venues.

It is estimated that between 50,000 and 80,000 beer cups are used on an AFL game day, while cricket match days see the usage of around 20,000 to 50,000 beer cups.

The new Beer BioCups are compliant with single-use plastic bans, meeting guidelines across all states and territories across Australia and are crafted with FSC certified paper and coated with plant-based bioplastic, not traditional plastic derived from fossil fuels.

Trevor Rumble, BioPak’s product & innovations director, said the inspiration behind the development of the cups lay with BioPak’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond the development of compostable products.

“We are dedicated to educating consumers and businesses about the importance of reducing single-use plastics and transitioning to compostable alternatives,” Rumble explained.

“By offering Beer BioCups, we hope to empower venues and event organisers to make a positive impact on the environment without compromising on the experience of enjoying a refreshing beverage.”

To foster circularity, Beer BioCups at participating venues can be collected after an event concludes, and diverted from landfill to be turned into nutrient-rich compost through Compost Connect, a non-profit, brand-agnostic platform that aims to provide a solution for compostable products and food waste at the end of their life.

The Beer BioCups are certified to AS4736 industrial compost standards, offering a compostable alternative to conventional plastic.BioPak’s Beer BioCups are now available in 420ml / 14oz and 600ml / 20oz sizes.
