Bountiful Certified South Carolina crop expected in June

In South Carolina, farmers are always hard at work harvesting fruits and vegetables in June. However, some of the most important work is being done back in April and May. It takes significant meteorological skills and perfect timing to beat the last frost of the season and produce the fresh and tasty harvest that makes Certified South Carolina produce so delicious.

“Nothing tastes better,” says Ansley Turnblad, marketing coordinator for the Certified South Carolina program at the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, told einnews.com. Most of her favorite South Carolina produce is harvested in the month of June, including sweet corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, squash, peaches, and cucumbers.

The Certified South Carolina program was created by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture in 2006 to help consumers identify and purchase local fruits and vegetables, while supporting local farms.
