Canada’s Farm Show underway in Regina

REGINA — Saskatchewan premier Scott Moe opened Canada’s Farm Show in Regina this morning, saying the province has welcomed 61 projects worth $62 billion in the last year.

“Just this morning we saw BASF announce a $27 million investment into their research facility here in the province, specific to advancing their canola breeding,” he said.

The day before, Bell Canada announced a $12 billion artificial intelligence data centre for the outskirts of Regina.

Moe said companies are investing because the province has affordable utilities, a workable business environment and innovative people, particularly in agriculture.

Canada’s Farm Show announced its Innovators Recognition Program recipients as the event got underway:

  • Darby Kreitz, founder of Red Leaf Pulp, as emerging innovator.
  • Cherilyn Jolly-Nagel, who farms near Mossbank, Sask., as visionary innovator.
  • The Doolie Project, led by Janel Delage of Delage Farms as community innovator.
  • Danyka Scott, co-owner of Land & Sky Grains near Grenfell, Sask., as farmer innovator.

The Equalizer Air Time Drill and Infinite Agronomy Air Cart from Lemken Canada was named best new equipment innovation, while the John Deere X9 Split Frame Concave — MAD Concaves from Bushel Plus is the top technology innovation.

Agi3 Risk Services won the new services innovation award for ForwardProtect, AgriEnhance and Farmelevate, a series of risk management solutions.

The show runs through March 19.
