The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) launches the Protein Pact, a sustainability framework for the meat processing sector. Developed by the U.S.-based Meat Institute, this framework aims to enhance sustainability practices across the industry.
The framework was released in the U.S. and Canada on March 27, 2025. CMC members will now be able to collaboratively and pre-competitively advance the sustainability of the animal processing sector in Canada in the areas of environment, animal care, workforce development, food safety and nutrition. For more information on the goals, visit www.theproteinpact.org.
“Canada’s red meat processing sector has sophisticated science-based practices and outcomes across their establishments and systems in place. This initiative will provide a vehicle to broadly communicate these initiatives and demonstrate our leadership to key stakeholders,” said CMC president and CEO Chris White.
