Carrefour achieved a new milestone in its commitment to the Spanish countryside, by becoming the first company in the sector to offer its customers Rosé plums under its own brand. The chain will sell 110 tons of this fruit under the Carrefour Quality Circle (CDC) brand this summer. To do this, Carrefour signed an agreement with the Aragonese producer Interlazaro. The agreement was signed by Alexandre de Palmas, executive director of Carrefour Spain, and Gustavo Lazaro Hernandez, president of Grupo Interlazaro.
The distribution company buys 1,900 tons of stone fruit per year in the Aragon area, including plums, peaches, nectarines, and donut peaches.
Grupo Interlazaro, which has collaborated with Carrefour since 2002, is currently one of its leading producers. It is a family business with almost 100 years of experience in the production of stone fruit and pip fruit. It has its own fields, all of which are located in Aragon. Its farms are located in a privileged area because they achieve a perfect combination of the Mediterranean and mountainous climates, offering unique fruits of incomparable quality, such as the CDC Rosé plum.
The Carrefour Quality Circle Rosé plum will be marketed from September to November in all of the chain’s establishments in Spain. This plum is a sustainable agricultural crop in which producers have optimized irrigation to reduce water consumption and use low input fertilization. In addition, they make a varietal selection to guarantee the product has more flavor. The Carrefour Quality Circle brand also guarantees that it is a very sweet product, as it is allowed to ripen on the tree and it’s only harvested when it is at its optimum point; this plum isn’t subjected to any post-harvest treatment and it is offered to the consumers with the best price-quality ratio that characterizes Carrefour’s own brands.
