The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) suspends Calgary-based Booby Food’s Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence. The suspension prohibits the company, which freeze dries breastmilk, from conducting any activities under licence # 6GLGM9X4.
The suspension stems from the company’s failure to meet several regulatory requirements including compliance with sections 10 and 13 of the Safe Food for Canadians Act, which mandate that import, export and interprovincial movement activities adhere to the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. Additionally, the company did not comply with parts two and four of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, which cover licensing for import and interprovincial trade, as well as sanitation and preventive controls.
Further, Booby Food violated sections 4 and 7 of the Food and Drugs Act, which prohibit the sale of unfit products and manufacturing in unsanitary conditions. The company also breached sections 3 and 5 of the Food and Drugs Act, which pertain to advertising and product claims.
No recalls are associated with this suspension. The suspension will remain in place until CFIA verifies Booby Food has implemented the necessary corrective measures. If the company fails to take corrective action within 90 days, CFIA may cancel the licence.
