Chinese banana market enters traditional slow season

The Chinese banana trade generally slackens off after the 1st of May holiday. Bananas are easily replaced in the market when seasonal fruit arrives, that is why the summer puts a lot of pressure on banana sales. Consumers prefer watermelons, pears, and peaches during the hot summer weather. That is why the banana trade slows down and the price often drops.

In addition, the product quality of bananas is unstable at the moment and that is another reason why the price is low. The supply volume from Yunnan is relatively small and so there is less pressure on banana farmers there. In Hainan, however, the supply volume is huge, but so is the number of visiting traders. Supply to the market is noernal, but the trade volume is in decline. The price remains stable but weak. As the temperatures rise, banana consumption drops.
