Chuck Magro takes helm at Corteva

Former Nutrien chief executive officer Chuck Magro is the new CEO of Corteva effective Nov. 1.

He will also join Corteva’s board of directors, the company said in an Oct. 28 news release.

Corteva Inc., based in Wilmington, Delaware, sells seed, crop protection and digital products. Formerly the Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, it became an independent public company in 2019.

Magro succeeds James C. Collins, Jr., who is retiring at year end.

Magro was president and CEO of Nutrien from the company’s launch in 2018 until April of this year. For four years before that he served as president and CEO of Agrium, which merged with PotashCorp to create Nutrien.

Nutrien is the world’s largest provider of crop inputs and services, notably potash, nitrogen and phosphate products.

Before his appointment as CEO of Agrium in 2014, Magro held a variety of roles, including chief operating officer, chief risk officer, executive vice-president of corporate development, and vice-president of manufacturing. He joined Agrium in 2009 after working with NOVA Chemicals.

Magro serves on the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. He was also vice-chair of the International Fertilizer Association and past-chair and board member of the Fertilizer Institute, and served as a board steward for the World Economic Forum’s Food Systems Initiative.
