DoorDash is the latest platform to enable key elements of the shopping journey within ChatGPT consumer sessions, via a new partnership with ChatGPT parent OpenAI. Consumers using ChatGPT for inspiration can turn the recipe suggestions into grocery orders that are delivered from local stores in less than an hour, on average.
Earlier this month, Instacart launched a ChatGPT app using the AI platform’s Instant Checkout feature. In November 2025, Target launched a beta test of in-app shopping through ChatGPT, following major ecommerce players including Shopify, Salesforce, Walmart and Etsy that kicked off their own integrations earlier this year.
“AI is unlocking an entirely new search and discovery experience for consumers that’s dynamic and personalized,” said Andy Fang, Co-founder at DoorDash in a statement. “We’re thrilled to partner with OpenAI to create a seamless experience that allows users to quickly order ingredients for any recipe and check out directly on DoorDash. As we expand this experience to more shopping categories, our focus is on building AI tools that give people time back and make local shopping easier.”
Here’s how the DoorDash/ChatGPT integration works:
“The DoorDash app in ChatGPT is another step toward bringing our vision to life — where AI connects directly to real-world services, saving people time and effort in their everyday lives,” said Nick Turley, VP, Head of ChatGPT in a statement.
