DoorDash Simplifies Multi-Merchant Shopping, Offers Discounts to EBT Recipients

DoorDash has redesigned its shopping experience for retail products, allowing customers to search for an item across multiple merchants with prices and estimated delivery times displayed in a single view. The platform has kicked off the service in the alcohol category and will expand it to categories including beauty, electronics and more in the coming months.

DoorDash also has introduced a one-year discounted DashPass plan for SNAP/EBT recipients for $4.99 per month, offering $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on eligible orders. Additionally, the platform has improved its DoubleDash offering; since its introduction in 2021, shoppers have been able to add items from an additional store after checking out without incurring an additional delivery fee. Now, shoppers can add items from multiple nearby stores prior to checkout, bundling them into a single order.

The platform also has enhanced its gifting experience, simplifying the process of buying gifts and adding personalized notes to recipients. For the hard-to-shop-for, DoorDash has gathered physical and digital gift cards from hundreds of merchants, including DoorDash gift cards. From Nov. 29 to Dec. 20, 2024, select cards will be offered at a 5% to 10% discount.

Like its competitors Uber Eats and Grubhub, DoorDash has been expanding its retailer portfolio and service offerings. Earlier this month Starbucks added a DoorDash delivery option to its mobile app, and in October 2024 DoorDash expanded its delivery offerings with Wegmans and other regional grocery favorites.
