FreshDirect is partnering with Uber Eats to expand its delivery reach in New York City. This is the online grocer’s first entry into on-demand delivery via a third-party app.
FreshDirect works directly with local farmers, fishermen, growers, distillers and food manufacturers to streamline the supply chain, ensuring products reach customers faster — up to seven days fresher than traditional grocery stores. Now, Uber Eats users in the NYC metro area will now be able to browse and buy FreshDirect’s full range of farm-fresh produce, premium meats, seafood, dairy products and household essentials.
By joining Uber Eats, FreshDirect will be able to offer same-day delivery via the Uber or Uber Eats apps, with shoppers receiving their orders in as little as one hour. FreshDirect also will be able to tap into Uber Eats’ extensive user base so it can drive customer acquisition.
“This collaboration with Uber Eats marks a significant step forward for FreshDirect,” said Metin Hacioglu, Deputy CEO of FreshDirect in a statement. “Our customers rely on us for the freshest, highest quality food and groceries, and now, with Uber’s technology and delivery expertise, we can offer them the same exceptional products they love — faster and more conveniently than ever.”
Uber Eats has focused on expanding its retailer network. The company recently rolled out on-demand delivery for Wegmans, Home Depot and Michaels.
According to Retail TouchPoints‘ 2024 Omnichannel & Fulfillment Survey, 36% of retailers tap third-party delivery partners like Uber Eats to support their omnichannel operations. While respondents noted that outsourcing these services was more cost-effective than building them in-house (56%), they also noted that these partnerships helped them offer expanded product assortments and services to customers (43%).
