Fried chicken, doughnuts and … cocktails? New Vancouver dining concept a 'love letter' to cravings

A new 'all-day dining' concept is coming to downtown Vancouver.

A new dining concept is coming to downtown Vancouver. And the menu highlights might give some people pause.

Fried chicken will feature alongside, glazed doughnuts, savoury sandwiches and cocktails such as an Apple Pie & Rye, Pecan Pie Old Fashioned, and Hot Honey Margarita at the planned eatery called Bam Bam.

The assemblage of eats is designed to be “the classics, the kind of things you grew up eating and still crave today,” according to a news release.

“Bam Bam has this future nostalgic feeling,” says founder and CEO Jess Reno. “It’s a love letter to the food and energy we all know and love.”

The new “all-day concept” comes from the team behind Nemesis. The growing local food company, which recently saw its namesake Nemesis Coffee

listed among the world’s best c

offee shops, has five locations across Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey and Coquitlam. It also operates Dope Bakehouse in North Van.

Inspired by “design, food, and the cultural moments that define North American nostalgia,” the new eatery will be located near B.C. Place stadium at 160 West Georgia St. At 2,800 square feat, the new eatery will seat 55 guests and feature decor inspired by baseball clubhouses and early hip-hop, all anchored by leather seating that leans into a 1960s vibe.

Set to open on April 1, Bam Bam builds on the popularity of merging sweet doughnuts with savoury delights. Trending Vancouver outposts offering a similar combination include Duffin’s Donuts and North Vancouver’s Cream Pony, which recently opened a second location at 2190 Main Street.

It’s been a roller-coaster of closures and openings in recent years for doughnut fans in the city. As local success stories like

Lee’s Donuts have continued to expand

, longtime favourites such as

Cartems have permanently shuttered.

Bittersweet, indeed.
