Gary Sorenson stepping away from Georgia Main Food Group and Jeff Starnaman appointed Chief Operating Officer

A new solution to grocery bag woes – Georgia Main Food Group launches first-ever Borrow a Bag program where it is guilt and hassle free if you forget your bag at home

March 24, 2025, hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh traditional territory / Burnaby, B.C. – After 14 years, Gary Sorenson, President and Chief Operating Officer, Georgia Main Food Group (GMFG) has made the difficult decision to step away from the Georgia Main team in order to focus time and attention on some personal life goals.

Louie, Chair, Georgia Main Food Group. “The impact Gary has made on this organization, since taking the helm 14 years ago is considerable. Under his leadership we have navigated some challenging events and many significant successes. Gary also played a pivotal role in the Fresh St. Market brand since its inception, to its current 9 locations. Gary leaves a remarkable legacy of inspired leadership with us, and we know he will continue to be one of our biggest supporters.”

Jeff Starnaman, who has been working for the past year at GMFG as Vice President, Merchandising, has been appointed to Chief Operating Officer. Jeff joined GMFG after serving 10 years at London Drugs where he held several key positions including being a member of the executive team, and as well in Human Resources, Distribution Services and Merchandising.
