All grocery retailers in Canada need to sign on to the Grocery Code of Conduct for it to work, says Metro Inc. president and CEO Eric La Flèche.
His comments at a House of Commons agriculture committee meeting on Monday follow statements made last week by Walmart Canada president and CEO Gonzalo Gebara and Loblaw Companies executive director Galen Weston. Canada’s grocery executives, including Empire Company’s Michael Medline, have been called back to Ottawa in recent weeks to discuss stabilizing food prices.
On Thursday, federal Agricultural Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Quebec Agriculture Minister André Lamontagne called on all the major grocers to sign the Grocery Code of Conduct.
