San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B is growing its omnichannel capabilities with the opening of an ecommerce fulfillment center in the San Antonio suburb of Cibolo.
The 55,000-square-foot facility, connected to an H-E-B store in Cibolo, will provide curbside and delivery throughout the San Antonio area.
“To help support rising demand of online shopping, the ecommerce fulfillment centers stock goods found in stores, which are used to satisfy curbside and home delivery orders,” the company said in a press release. “These facilities allow for more capacity, greater efficiency, less aisle congestion for the in-store shopper, and better product availability.”
It’s the grocer’s eighth ecommerce fulfillment center opened since 2018, and the company said it plans to open more “to help support the retailer’s expansion throughout Texas.”
The ecommerce center opening comes at a time of expansion for the company, which opened its first store in Fort Worth, Texas, in March.
The grocery also announced in late April that it closed on a land purchase of nearly 500 acres in Hempstead, Texas, about an hour outside of Houston. The land will be home to a distribution campus to support its supply chain operations.
“The land purchase is the first step in the development of this strategically planned campus, a project that will position H-E-B to better serve our customers well into the future,” Carson Landsgard, H-E-B’s chief supply chain officer, said in late April.
