PETER GOUDAS

Peter Spiros Goudas was known in the Caribbean community as “Mr. Goudas” and supplied grocery stores throughout Canada and overseas with his rice, Jamaican ginger beer and other Caribbean foods, as well as international foods from China and India. Goudas arrived in Toronto in 1967 and, over the course of the next four decades, built a food empire. He sold his business in 2014 for $10 million to BLVD Holdings.

JOHN DUNNE

John Dunne, former chair and CEO at A&P Canada, has passed away. Dunne was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1939. His career in grocery began as a “bag boy” at A&P in 1958; he remained at the company until his retirement. His many achievements include being named the Ileitis and Colitis Foundation Man of the Year in 1987; a 1997 Golden Pencil Award recipient; and Irish Person of the Year (Ireland Fund of Canada) in 1996. He was also recently inducted into the Grocery Business Hall of Fame.

Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers names Life Members

The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) presented 2022 Life Member awards to Cara Keating, chief commercial officer, Frito Lay North America, and Jim Bexis, owner of independent grocer Sun Valley Market in Toronto.

Keating and Bexis were officially recognized at the CFIG Grocer of the Year awards gala on October 26, during the Grocery Innovations Canada 2022 trade show.
