New ‘Big & Bulky’ Instacart Service Offers Same-Day Fulfillment on Larger Items

Instacart has introduced a new Big & Bulky fulfillment service nationwide for same-day scheduled delivery of larger products, which customers can purchase alongside smaller items such as their groceries. The service is available via the Instacart App and Instacart Platform-powered websites through Instacart’s Carrot Delivery solution, which offers end-to-end fulfillment solutions for retailers. Retailers such as Big Lots, The Container Store, Mastermind Toys, Office Depot, Spirit Halloween and Staples will be able to deliver larger items including outdoor furniture, home office supplies and electronics.

Instacart shoppers who drive roomier vehicles can now opt in to shop for batches that include large products, providing opportunities for shoppers to “earn on their terms,” a commitment the company shared earlier this year. A pilot program of the new service found that 97% of shoppers with eligible vehicles chose to shop bulky batches.

“By introducing Big & Bulky, consumers can now access an even wider selection of items for same-day delivery,” said Daniel Danker, Chief Product Officer at Instacart in a statement. “With football season just around the corner, Instacart’s Big & Bulky solution can provide customers with items like portable grills and tents for a tailgate or a 55″ TV in case they’re watching from home — all in as fast as an hour.”

Instacart expanded its offerings following a number of July 2022 promotions within the company’s executive leadership team as Instacart prepares for its IPO. Instacart has created two new C-level roles to promote connectivity within the company and among its partners in addition to developing innovative technology solutions. Former VP of Retail Chris Rogers was promoted to the new Chief Business Officer role, and JJ Zhuang, the former Head of Infrastructure, was named to the newly created Chief Architect position.
